Description
Overview
The Supremo Select Kinetic Steel Series Djembe combines professional-grade sonic projection with a striking visual aesthetic. Part of the Supremo Select Series, this instrument is designed for percussionists who demand a high-quality, durable djembe without the premium price tag of boutique hand-carved drums.
The standout feature of this series is the Kinetic finish, a proprietary finishing technique perfected by Tycoon Percussion’s design division. Each drum features a hand-applied appearance, ensuring a unique texture and visual depth that makes every instrument a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
Key Details
- Kinetic Finish: Utilizes a specialized, hand-applied finishing process that creates unique textures and colors across the shell.
- Steel Series Construction: Engineered for durability and a bright, cutting tone that projects well in various acoustic environments.
- 12″ Playing Surface: Optimized for a balanced blend of deep bass notes and sharp, crisp slaps.
- Professional Tuning: Designed for stability and ease of tensioning to maintain pitch during performance.
Use Cases
- Live Performance: The steel construction provides the volume and projection necessary to cut through a full band or ensemble.
- Street Performing: Its rugged build and durable finish make it an ideal choice for busking and outdoor events.
- Educational Settings: An affordable yet high-quality entry point for students learning traditional West African percussion techniques.
- Studio Recording: Offers a distinct, metallic resonance that provides a different character than traditional wood djembes.
Installation
This instrument arrives ready for minimal setup. To prepare the djembe for play:
- Tensioning: Use a standard djembe wrench to tighten the tuning lugs evenly around the circumference of the head.
- Tuning: Tighten in a star pattern to ensure the skin is seated evenly across the bearing edge for optimal tone.
- Placement: Ensure the drum is placed on a stable surface or a dedicated djembe stand to allow the bottom of the shell to resonate freely.
Compatibility
The Supremo Select Kinetic Steel Series Djembe is a standalone percussion instrument. It is compatible with standard djembe tuning tools and accessories. Due to its 12″ head size, it fits most standard djembe bags and stands designed for medium-sized hand drums.
