Best For
Use Cases
- Traditional African Ensembles: Ideal for percussionists performing traditional West African music who require the specific low-end punch of a natural hide.
- World Music Production: Perfect for studio recordings where the organic, non-synthetic sound of cowskin is necessary for authenticity.
- Drum Maintenance: An essential replacement part for maintaining the sonic integrity of a 15″ Dundunba as heads wear down over time.
Setup Notes
Installation
Installation involves removing the existing head and securing the new cowskin head over the drum shell. Because this is a natural hide, it is recommended to gradually increase tension using the drum’s rope or lug system to allow the skin to settle evenly. Depending on environmental humidity, the head may require periodic tuning to maintain the desired pitch and tension.
