Description
Overview
Nagual is a reactive polyphonic virtual instrument that transmutes rare Pre-Hispanic ceremonial sources from Mexico into playable sound sculptures. Developed in collaboration with revered musician Ramiro RamÃrez, Nagual captures the spiritual essence of ancient instruments—originally limited to single tones—and transforms them into a living, blendable instrument that responds to your touch in real time.
Recorded at Panoram Studio in Mexico City using an advanced ultrasonic microphone array, Nagual utilizes Extended Resolution Audio (E.R.A) to capture frequencies beyond the range of human hearing. This high-fidelity foundation allows for radical pitch shifting and motion without losing sonic integrity, turning sacred ceremonial tools into a versatile, synthesizer-like experience for the modern producer.
Key Details
- Ceremonial Source Library: Includes clay water flutes, conch shell trumpets (Atekokolli), sacred Huehuetl and Teponaztli drums, haunting ocarinas, and ritual whistles.
- High-Resolution Audio: Sampled at 384 kHz / 32-bit to ensure extreme malleability during polyphonic transformation.
- Extensive Preset Library: 134 total presets divided into Elements, Atelier, and Artist categories (including 64 Atelier and 13 Artist presets).
- Advanced Sampling: 44 sample maps with up to 10 Round Robins per note to eliminate mechanical repetition.
- Performance Engine: Powered by MNDALA 2, featuring 3-axis universal controls, custom animation-driven GUI, and Sample Start Modulation for organic expression.
- Sonic Range: Playable range from C1 to C5.
- Multi-Mic Capture: Up to 4 stereo streams including mid-side close-miking, omnidirectional ambience, back-facing room mics, and Eigenmike ambisonics.
Use Cases
- Cinematic Scoring: Creating atmospheric, Mesoamerican-inspired soundscapes for film and games, similar to the work found in Shadow of the Tomb Raider or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
- Ambient & Experimental Production: Using the morphing polyphonic capabilities to create evolving pads and “living” textures that breathe and evolve.
- Sound Design: Leveraging the 384 kHz source recordings for extreme pitch manipulation and sonic sculpting.
- Ritualistic & Healing Music: Utilizing the authentic ceremonial character of the clay and wooden instruments for meditative or spiritual compositions.
