Description
Overview
The Metric Halo SuperGate V4 is a precision noise gate designed to perform the fundamental task of gating—letting target audio through unaffected while attenuating unwanted signals—with unprecedented transparency. Unlike traditional gates that rely on dynamic expander parameters, SuperGate utilizes a state-machine based approach. It applies a programmed set of sample-by-sample instructions to define the gain structure and duration of the Attack-Hold-Release envelope.
By treating the gate curve as a set of precise instructions rather than a general parameter, SuperGate completely avoids aliasing artifacts, interpolation stages, and the modulation or smearing effects that typically degrade gain transitions. The result is a processor that preserves the nuance, feel, and personality of the original audio event with perfect repeatability.
Key Details
- Sample-Accurate Gating: Uses a state-machine based attack and release to ensure distortion-free gating and eliminate smearing.
- Customizable Gain Curves: Precisely adjust Attack and Release curves while visually referencing a specialized WYSIWYG detector display.
- Advanced Detection: Features an integrated detector EQ with a SpectraFoo™ Analyzer and flexible internal monitoring to isolate target sounds accurately.
- Precision Control: Comprehensive Threshold, Hysteresis, Hold Time, and Maximum Attenuation controls for granular configuration.
- Look-Ahead Mode: Includes delay-compensated look-ahead to ensure no transients are missed.
- Visual Feedback: Detailed Detector and Gain Reduction (GR) history metering with adjustable UI sizes and disclosable graphs.
- Workflow Integration: Includes the MH Preset Manager for seamless cross-platform preset sharing.
Use Cases
- Drum Tracking & Mixing: Ideal for cleaning up drum toms suffering from heavy snare or cymbal bleed without losing the natural attack of the drum.
- High-Stakes Production: Perfect for sessions where “feathered” attacks (such as a light kick or snare) must be preserved without the risk of the gate cutting off the signal.
- Professional Sound Design: Useful in environments requiring repeatable, surgical attenuation of noise floors in complex audio streams.
- Ducking Applications: Leverages advanced gating and ducking capabilities to create professional sidechain effects.
