Overview
MBEQ is a Make Believe Studios equalizer plug-in tuned around the workflow of Rick Carson, 9x Grammy-nominated mixing and mastering engineer and owner of Make Believe Studios in Omaha, Nebraska.
MBEQ is designed for fast, musical tone shaping rather than a purely analytical knob-and-number workflow. With the Sauce circuit switched on, it adds big British 1960s EQ tone and analog character inspired by rare PYE TVT console modules built for the BBC. With Sauce switched off, it becomes a cleaner, modern equalizer in the spirit of Metric Halo channel-strip workflow.
Why It Exists
The interface is built to let you focus on sound, not numbers. MBEQ includes modifier-key workflows that let you “play” the EQ like an instrument, making it easier to quickly dial in the tone you hear in your head.
The Sauce topology includes State Space Extracted transformers and discrete amplifiers. The output level affects the analog-modeled harmonic character, so MBEQ includes both a pre-EQ drive control and a post-output-stage fader for precise gain staging.
