Description
Overview
The Lace Sensor Gold Pickup is the foundation of the Sensor series, meticulously engineered to replicate the iconic ’50s-style single coil sound. It delivers a classic, classy bell tone that is well-rounded and versatile enough for any guitar position or musical style. By combining vintage tonal characteristics with modern noise-reduction technology, the Gold Sensor provides the crystalline clarity of a traditional single coil without the associated interference.
Key Details
- Radiant Field Barrier System: Features a unique metal slide system that frames the inner core, shielding the pickup from outside noise and significantly reducing 60-cycle hum.
- Lace Micro Combs: Patented Micro Combs replace traditional bobbins, resulting in a wider tonal range and superior string-to-string balance compared to standard pickups.
- Advanced Sensing Technology: While traditional pickups rely on 4 to 12 magnetic poles, the Lace Sensor generates 36 separate magnetic sensing fields, allowing for a more accurate reading of string vibration.
- Enhanced Harmonic Response: By reading a greater physical area of the string and minimizing interference, the pickup achieves a phenomenal signal-to-noise ratio and a more complex, rich harmonic content.
- Vintage Voicing: Specifically designed to duplicate the crisp top end and bell-like resonance of early Fender single coil pickups.
Use Cases
The Lace Sensor Gold is an ideal choice for guitarists seeking a transparent, high-fidelity vintage sound. It is particularly effective for the following genres and styles:
- Vintage Rock & Blues: Perfect for achieving the articulate, singing lead tones associated with artists like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck.
- Country & R&B: Provides the “snap” and clarity required for clean, rhythmic playing.
- Indie & Funk: Delivers the percussive, bright attack needed for funk scratching and indie textures, reminiscent of Pete Townshend or Built to Spill.
Installation
The Lace Sensor Gold is designed as a direct replacement for standard single coil pickups. Installation involves removing the existing pickup and soldering the Lace Sensor leads to the guitar’s volume and tone pots. Due to the Radiant Field Barrier, these pickups offer a more concentrated sensing field, ensuring consistent output across the fretboard once properly height-adjusted.
Compatibility
This pickup is designed for use in electric guitars that utilize single coil routing. It is specifically voiced to emulate early Fender-style single coils, making it a primary choice for Stratocaster-style instruments or any guitar requiring a high-fidelity, low-noise vintage single coil replacement.
