Description
Overview
The Gibraltar Port Hole Protector (6 Inch Black) is a professional-grade accessory designed to safeguard your bass drum head from accidental damage. When a port hole is cut into a drum head for microphone placement or internal dampening, the edges of the plastic become vulnerable to tears and fraying. This protector provides a durable, reinforced barrier that prevents small nicks from turning into catastrophic rips, extending the life of your drum head.
Key Details
- Reinforced Protection: Specifically engineered to cover the raw edges of a 6-inch port hole, preventing tears and structural failure.
- Low Profile Design: With a height of only 0.03 inches, it sits flush against the drum head to avoid interfering with the beater or external hardware.
- Sleek Aesthetics: Finished in black to blend seamlessly with most standard bass drum heads for a professional stage appearance.
- Lightweight Construction: Weighing only 0.13 lbs, it adds zero significant mass to the head, ensuring the drum’s resonance and tone remain unaffected.
Use Cases
- Live Performance: Ideal for touring drummers who frequently move gear and need extra insurance against accidental impacts near the port hole.
- Studio Recording: Perfect for setups where microphones are positioned inside the kick drum, ensuring the port remains stable and tear-free during session adjustments.
- Head Longevity: Recommended for drummers using high-tension tuning or aggressive playing styles that put more stress on the drum head material.
Installation
Installation is straightforward and requires no permanent modifications to your equipment. Simply center the protector over the existing 6-inch port hole on your bass drum head. The protector is designed to adhere securely to the surface, providing a clean, finished edge that locks the plastic in place.
Compatibility
- Port Size: Specifically designed for 6-inch diameter port holes.
- Drum Type: Compatible with all standard bass drum heads regardless of brand or ply.
