Overview
The Paiste Formula 602 Thin Crash is a reintroduction of one of the most legendary and preferred cymbal lines in drumming history. Renowned for its fine, pure, and delicate musical tone, the Formula 602 Classic Sounds series is designed for drummers who demand precise control and a sophisticated sonic palette. Handcrafted from start to finish by skilled Swiss craftsmen, these cymbals offer a level of clarity and consistency that defines the “classic” professional sound.
Key Details
- Legendary 602 Bronze: Forged from the prestigious CuSn20 alloy, ensuring a true, pure sound with exceptional transparency.
- Sonic Character: Delivers a silvery, breathy, and transparent tone with a slightly complex and dense mix.
- Dynamic Range: Optimized for medium-low to medium-loud volumes, providing a velvety feel and shimmering decay.
- Performance Profile: Features a washy stick sound with fairly lively intensity and medium sustain.
- Integrated Bell: The bell character is seamlessly integrated into the overall crash voice for a cohesive musical response.
Use Cases
With its definite retro character and soft, shimmering feel, the 19-inch Thin Crash is highly versatile across various musical genres:
- Jazz and Big Band: Ideal for subtle accents and breathy crashes that blend perfectly with acoustic instruments.
- Studio Recording: The transparent and clear frequency response makes it easy to mix without overpowering other elements.
- Classic Rock and Pop: Perfect for drummers seeking a vintage aesthetic and a sophisticated, less aggressive crash sound.
Installation
This cymbal is designed for standard cymbal stands. To ensure longevity and optimal resonance:
- Mounting: Use a standard cymbal tilter and felt pads to allow the cymbal to vibrate freely.
- Tension: Avoid over-tightening the wing nut; leave a small amount of play to prevent “choking” the sound and to avoid cracking the bronze.
Compatibility
Compatible with any standard cymbal stand or drum rack system utilizing a standard 1/4″ or 5/8″ mounting arm. This 19-inch model is designed to complement other Formula 602 series cymbals for a consistent tonal family, though it pairs well with any high-quality professional cymbal set.
