Tonally, it sits somewhere between a steel-string acoustic guitar and a mandolin – the latter’s bigger, beefier brother. The moment we heard it, we knew we had to sample it.Though Greek in origin, the bouzouki is remarkably versatile. It’s equally at home in western, cinematic, folk, indie, world, and ethnic music. The sustains/hammer-ons/pull-offs patch, in particular, is a joy to play and brings out the instrument’s expressive character.
