Description

Product Overview

Overview

The Choptones VHT 4×12 P50 SuperCabinet IR Library is a professional-grade impulse response collection designed to bring the massive, authoritative sound of a classic 90s guitar cabinet to your digital studio. This library is a systematic capture of a VHT 4×12 cabinet equipped with VHT P50-E speakers (manufactured in the USA by Eminence), known for their exceptional low-end response and a unique midrange character that makes them a premier choice for Metal and high-gain genres.

To ensure absolute precision, all captures were performed using a motorized mic stand, providing consistent measurements across the entire library. With over 300 IRs, this collection offers an exhaustive range of sonic textures, from tight and focused to wide and atmospheric.

What Stands Out

Key Details

  • Extensive Capture Set: Includes more than 300 IRs globally, utilizing 11 different microphones with 8 to 16 positions per microphone and multiple mic preamps.
  • Precision Mic Placement: Each microphone was moved across four horizontal positions (Cap, Cap Edge, Cone, and Cone Edge) at two different distances. Select microphones also include off-axis (45 degree) measurements.
  • Premium Hardware Source: Captured from a slanted-front, closed-back cabinet constructed from Birch plywood for a solid, punchy resonance.
  • Professional Microphone Selection:
    • Audio Technica 2035
    • Beyerdynamic M160
    • Electrovoice RE20
    • Sennheiser MD21
    • Sennheiser MD421
    • Sennheiser MD441
  • Advanced Workflow Tools: Features graphical browsing of IRs, the ability to blend multiple IRs for custom stereo tones, and a unique Multiband mode for composing new cabinet tones.
  • Universal Export: Crafted IRs can be exported in .wav format for use with major hardware modelers and third-party software IR loaders.
Best For

Use Cases

  • Modern Metal Production: Ideal for producers needing a “big” low end and a cutting midrange that sits perfectly in a dense mix.
  • High-Gain Guitar Tracking: Perfect for achieving a polished, record-ready guitar tone without the need for a physical 4×12 cabinet and high-volume amplification.
  • Custom Tone Shaping: Use the blending and multiband tools to create a signature cabinet response tailored to specific song sections or artist preferences.
  • Hardware Integration: Export custom-blended IRs to load into floor modelers for consistent live performance tones.
Setup Notes

Installation

Important Requirement: This IR library requires either SuperCabinet or TH-U Premium to function. Please ensure you have one of these host products installed before adding the library.

After purchase, follow the publisher’s instructions for downloading the library and authorizing your license. Once installed, the library can be accessed within the SuperCabinet or TH-U interface. Keep your serial number and account credentials available during the activation process.
