Product Overview

Overview

The Choptones Brit Tall 4×12 BB SuperCabinet IR Library is a professional-grade impulse response collection designed to recreate one of the most legendary guitar cabinets in history. This library captures the elusive sound of the Marshall 1982B LTD JH 4×12, famously known as “The Jimi Cabinet.” With only 200 of these units ever produced, this library provides rare access to a straight-front, closed-back, solid plywood construction equipped with rare 1970s Rola Celestion G12H30 Black Back speakers.

The result is a sonic profile that is exceptionally warm yet maintains sharp definition, offering a vintage British roar that is essential for classic rock and blues tones. To ensure absolute precision, captures were performed using a motorized mic stand, providing a systematic and consistent set of measurements across the entire library.

What Stands Out

Key Details

  • Extensive Capture Library: Over 300 global IRs created using 12 different microphones, with 8 to 16 positions per microphone.
  • Precision Mic Positioning: Every microphone was captured at four horizontal positions (Cap, Cap Edge, Cone, and Cone Edge) and two different distances.
  • Advanced Axis & Preamps: Selected microphones include off-axis (45 degree) measurements. All sets were recorded through two distinct high-end preamps: a Neve 1073 and a German preamp.
  • Phase Aligned: All IRs are phase-aligned, allowing users to blend multiple captures without experiencing phase cancellation.
  • Included Microphone Models:
    • Audio Technica 2035
    • Beyerdynamic M160
    • Electrovoice RE20
    • Sennheiser MD21
    • Sennheiser MD421
    • Sennheiser MD441
Best For

Use Cases

  • Vintage Rock Productions: Achieve the authentic “Jimi” era guitar tone with the warmth and punch of rare Black Back speakers.
  • Custom Tone Shaping: Use the SuperCabinet interface to blend multiple IRs, creating massive, custom stereo guitar tones.
  • Hybrid Workflows: Craft a specific cabinet tone using the unique Multiband mode and export the result as a .wav file for use in hardware modelers or other software loaders.
  • Consistent Mixing: Utilize the systematic capture data to quickly find the exact mic position and preamp flavor needed for a specific track.
