Description

Product Overview

Overview

The Choptones Brit 1960 4×12 G1280 SuperCabinet IR Library is a professional-grade impulse response collection designed to recreate the legendary sound of a Marshall* 1960 A 4×12 cabinet equipped with Rola Celestion* G12-80 speakers. This specific speaker, produced for only two years in the 1980s, is renowned for providing massive volume with a significantly fatter low end and mid-range compared to other Celestion speakers of that era, making it the definitive choice for modern rock tones.

To ensure absolute precision, all captures were performed using a motorized mic stand, providing consistent measurements across the library. This systematic approach resulted in over 300 IRs, utilizing 11 different microphones, multiple preamps, and a rigorous positioning grid to give producers total control over their guitar tone.

What Stands Out

Key Details

  • Extensive Capture Library: Over 300 global IRs created using 11 microphones with 8 to 16 positions per mic.
  • Precision Positioning: Every microphone was mapped across four horizontal positions (Cap, Cap Edge, Cone, and Cone Edge) at two different distances.
  • Off-Axis Options: Select microphones include a repeated set of 8 measurements captured at a 45-degree off-axis angle for added depth.
  • Premium Microphone Selection: Includes captures from industry standards:
    • Audio Technica* 2035
    • Beyerdynamic* M160
    • Electrovoice* RE20
    • Sennheiser* MD21, MD421, and MD441
  • Advanced Tone Shaping: Features a graphical browser for IRs, the ability to blend multiple IRs for huge stereo tones, and a unique Multiband mode for composing custom cabinet responses.
  • Flexible Export: Crafted IRs can be exported in .wav format for use with any major hardware modeler or software IR loader.
Best For

Use Cases

  • Modern Rock Production: Ideal for guitarists needing the “wall of sound” associated with 80s-style high-gain rock and metal.
  • Professional Mixing: Perfect for engineers who need to swap cabinet tones quickly without re-recording, utilizing the systematic mic positions to find the perfect fit in a mix.
  • Hybrid Rig Setup: Use the .wav export feature to load these high-fidelity captures into hardware floor modelers for live performance.
  • Custom Sound Design: Use the blending and Multiband modes to create a signature cabinet sound that doesn’t exist in standard presets.
