Description

Product Overview

Overview

The BHS 4×12 Powered Green SuperCabinet IR Library is a professional-grade impulse response collection designed to bring the authentic sound of a legendary 4×12″ Greenback cabinet into your digital studio. Created by Michael Nielsen of BHS, this library transcends standard cabinet captures by recording the cabinet through four distinct, legendary guitar power amps. This process provides the specific harmonic flavor, “push,” and sonic architecture associated with high-end guitar racks.

Featuring a massive collection of 1,152 phase-aligned IRs, this library allows users to meticulously shape their guitar tone by blending different microphone placements and power amp characteristics. Whether you require the warmth of a solid-state powerhouse or the punch of a tube amp, this library delivers world-class guitar production capabilities.

What Stands Out

Key Details

  • Cabinet Archetype: 4×12″ cabinet loaded with 20w British Greenback speakers.
  • Powered Captures: IRs are captured through four legendary power amps for distinct harmonic characters:

    Mesa 2:Ninety (6L6)

    VHT 2150 (KT88)

    VHT Classic (EL34)

H&H Solid State (Warm, amp-friendly character ideal for “wet” cabs or re-amplifying preamps)
  • Extensive Mic Selection: Captured using 18 different microphones, including the Audio Technica AT4033, Electro Voice RE16, Groove Tubes MD1, Sennheiser E609, and Sennheiser MD421.
  • Precision Positioning: Each microphone was captured across 16 different positions, covering 4 horizontal placements (Cap, Cap Edge, Cone, and Cone Edge), 2 distances, and 2 angles (on-axis and off-axis).
  • Phase Coherence: All IRs are phase-aligned, allowing for the seamless blending of multiple microphones without phase cancellation.
  • Advanced Customization: Includes graphical IR browsing, the ability to blend multiple captures for massive stereo tones, and a unique Multiband mode to compose entirely new cabinet tones.
Best For

Use Cases

  • Professional Studio Mixing: Achieve a “finished” record sound by utilizing the specific power amp flavors that define classic rock and metal albums.
  • Custom Tone Sculpting: Leverage the 1,152 available IRs to find the exact frequency response needed to fit a guitar part perfectly into a dense mix.
  • Hardware Integration: Export your custom-crafted IR blends as .wav files for use in external hardware modelers and other software IR loaders.
  • Live Performance: Create a consistent, high-end cabinet sound that remains stable across different venues and PA systems.
Setup Notes

Installation

This product is a digital expansion library. To utilize these IRs, you must have either TH-U Premium or SuperCabinet installed on your system. Once the host software is active, the BHS 4×12 Powered Green library can be loaded into the SuperCabinet interface for browsing, blending, and processing.
