Description
Overview
The Tycoon 14″ Bodhrán Frame Drum is a professional-grade interpretation of the traditional Irish frame drum. Rooted in mid-19th century Celtic music, the bodhrán has evolved into a global percussion staple, and Tycoon Percussion continues this legacy by combining authentic materials with sustainable manufacturing. This instrument delivers the characteristic deep, resonant thump and versatile tonal range required for traditional folk, Celtic, and contemporary world music arrangements.
Key Details
- Sustainable Construction: The drum shells are crafted from environmentally-friendly Siam Oak wood, providing a sturdy frame and a warm, natural resonance.
- Authentic Playing Surface: Equipped with genuine natural goat skin heads to ensure traditional tonal characteristics and organic response.
- Optimized Dimensions: Features a 14″ diameter, offering a balanced size for both portability and sonic depth.
- Complete Starter Kit: Includes a matching wooden tipper (beater) also constructed from Siam Oak wood for consistent attack and tone.
- Versatile Options: Available in both tunable and non-tunable versions to suit different player preferences; the tunable version includes a dedicated tuning key for precise pitch control.
Use Cases
- Traditional Celtic Music: Ideal for providing the rhythmic heartbeat in Irish jigs, reels, and hornpipes.
- World Music Fusion: A versatile addition to percussion ensembles looking for a deep, earthy frame drum sound.
- Acoustic Performance: Perfect for unplugged sessions, folk circles, and live stage performances where a natural, organic percussion sound is required.
Installation
As a physical percussion instrument, no complex installation is required. For the tunable version, use the included tuning key to adjust the tension of the goat skin head until the desired pitch and resonance are achieved. Ensure the head is tightened evenly around the circumference of the shell to maintain a consistent playing surface.
Compatibility
This instrument is a standalone acoustic percussion piece and is compatible with any musical setting. It is designed for use with the included Siam Oak tipper, though it is compatible with various third-party bodhrán beaters and hand-playing techniques.
