Description
Overview
The Vater Sumo Tenor Stick (Model MV-TS2N) is a high-performance marching tool engineered specifically for the demands of tenor drums. Designed to bridge the gap between power and precision, the Sumo features a larger round black nylon tip that maximizes surface contact. This design ensures a massive, full-bodied sound while maintaining the articulation necessary for complex rudimental passages.
Crafted from premium American Hickory, these sticks provide the ideal balance of durability and shock absorption. Unlike aluminum shafts, the hickory construction allows for authentic “wood” rim shots and a natural feel that reduces vibration, allowing the performer to maintain control during high-intensity performances.
Key Details
- Premium American Hickory: Constructed from a blend of Shellbark and Shagbark Hickory, selected for superior strength and durability.
- Optimized Moisture Content: Dried to a specific 10%-12% moisture range to ensure the stick performs as a professional striking tool with consistent feel.
- Large Black Nylon Tip: A round, oversized tip designed to increase surface area contact for a bigger, more articulate attack.
- Balanced Taper: Specifically tapered to facilitate rapid speed and precise control across multiple tenor drums.
- Natural Vibration Dampening: The wood shaft absorbs impact more effectively than metal alternatives, protecting the player’s hands during long sets.
Use Cases
- Marching Band & Drum Corps: Ideal for tenor players who need maximum projection and volume in outdoor stadium environments.
- Indoor Percussion: Provides the articulation required for intricate ensemble work while maintaining a bold sonic presence.
- High-Impact Performance: Perfect for drummers who execute heavy rim shots and aggressive striking patterns without sacrificing stick longevity.
Installation
No installation is required. These sticks are ready for immediate use. For optimal performance, it is recommended to store them in a dry environment to maintain the specific moisture content of the hickory wood.
Compatibility
The Vater Sumo Tenor Stick is compatible with all standard tenor drums, multi-toms, and marching percussion setups. It is designed for use by percussionists requiring a heavier-hitting stick with a nylon tip for enhanced projection.
