Overview
Avid Artist | DNxIV is a physical portable video and audio I/O interface for Media Composer and professional post-production systems. It connects over Thunderbolt 3 and gives editors, assistants, and finishing rooms dedicated hardware for capture, playback, monitoring, audio punch-in, external reference workflows, and high-resolution output.
This is hardware, not a software license, subscription, activation code, or download.
Production Uses
- Capture, monitor, and output SD, HD, 2K, UltraHD, and full 4K video
- Feed client monitors, recorders, switchers, and professional post-production displays
- Record voiceovers or narration directly into the timeline using the front-panel XLR input
- Monitor HDR workflows with HDMI HDR10 and HLG support where the connected software and display support it
- Use in edit suites, field production carts, machine rooms, and mobile post-production rigs

- Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports for host connection and pass-through daisy chaining
- Four bidirectional 12G/6G/3G-SDI connections
- HDMI 2.0 input and output for UltraHD/4K workflows up to 60p
- Dedicated HD/SD-SDI down-converted output for monitoring or recording 4K/UHD work as HD
- Front-panel balanced XLR mic/line input with phantom power and optional gain
- Embedded SDI/HDMI audio support, headphone monitoring, RS-422, LTC, and external reference workflow support
Compatibility Notes
- Designed for Avid Media Composer systems and Avid Artist I/O workflows
- Media Composer 8.10 or later is required for DNxIV support according to Avid’s FAQ
- Thunderbolt 3 cable is not included by Avid and must be ordered separately
- Driver/desktop software installation is required before use
